Montevideo

URUGUAY

It is a small country. You can go there by plane via its National Airport "Carrasco", though its usual touristic access is through its neighbour country Argentina, as an extension to Montevideo.

There are two bus-boats in the morning and two more in the afternoon that leaves from Argentina and connect with Montevideo.

Ther are no monuments or big architectonic buildings. Its beaches show up, some of them are of high quality. All the littoral aerea of Uruguay seem a "Riviera".

MONTEVIDEO : It is placed in "La Plata" river´s banks. Montevideo is a quite small town, 1.5 million people. The whole city is orientated to the sea, towards a small bay called " Montevideo Bay".

All its commerce is concentrated in the centre of the city, the rest of the aereas are agricultural.

We point out some of the most interesting places: Old part of town, Zabala Square, 25th May Street, Sarandi St., Constitution or Matuz square, the Cathedral and the "Cabildo".

An interesting central point is the Independence square, where the Selis theatre and the Natural History museum are. We advise you to go to the Victoria plaza Hotel also placed in Independencesquare and go upstairs to its terraced garden from where you can behold a great view from Montevideo Bay. However, the best place to see all the bay is a hill called "el Fuerte", where there is a light house.

"Pocitos"+

To do your shopping, you´d better go to 18th July Street, where there are good stores. We also recommend a walk by the José Batlle Ordoñez park, where the great Centennary Stadium is placed.

The most outstanding architectonical work is the legislative Palace, in the Parliament, which is made by marble.

Lastly, let´s point out "La Rambla", a walkpath along the "La Plata" river. Some other beaches: Ramirez Beach, La Estrada Beach, Pecitos Beach, and many more till Carrasco Beach; a total of 20 kilometres of beaches, where finally we find the airport.
